Don't bother going to the crowded, pretty dark and dirty sit-down location around the corner - The Pie is all about their pizzas and you want to enjoy these beauties in a nice, peaceful environment to soak up the pizza goodness. Some of our favorite pizza in Utah but the restaurant is a little gross so just grab the takeout at this location and enjoy on the lawn at the U around the corner or at home on your couch with a good movie.

Love the cheese pull a part! It's huge and yummy. The pizza is kinda salty. They have pizza in slice as well. We didn't know that...

I don't normally write reviews, but we had such great customer service at Pie Pizzeria Delivery that I just have to. Zach was the MAN! Seriously, best customer service for takeout I've ever had. Skip Pie Hole, hit up the Pie. Oh, and the pizza was incredible. Thai Pie and Wise Guy, just do it.

Still like this place, even more so now that they offer a vegan cheese option. We brought some out of town family here and it was a huge hit. Loved the extreme veggie and can't wait to try the wise guy. Balsamic on pizza?? Yes please.

The closest Salt Lake gets to being New York. With better customer service, and arguably better pizza.

Favorite pizza around! I live in Utah county & drive up to SLC just to get a slice of delicious-ness! As close to NYC pizza as I can find. Hands down best pull apart & killer homemade ranch. Good beer drafts, fun atmosphere & sometimes rowdy when there's a Utes game! Love love love it! It's been a favorite of mine since the 80's!

  • Harrison M.

I love this place. The atmosphere is weird and really poorly lit, but the chicken bacon Ranch is so good. It can be hard to get a table and fit a group in there, but put this on your list of places to eat when in SLC.

This is the take-out/delivery only outlet of The Pie, necessary as the original place on 200 S., while unbeatable for ambiance and the actual pies themselves, was just not really ever conducive to take-out or delivery. Of all of The Pies, this is the one I probably utilize most and like all of the locations, for over 20 years running, this restaurant chain has never done me wrong. Not only not once, but never even close to once. They are, in point of fact, a very model of consistency. One major thing going for these guys in their favor is that they are dead on as far as timing. If they tell you a specific time, bet your bottom dollar that pie will be waiting for you, fresh, hot and likely as not, already boxed and just waiting for you to plunk down your shekels and fight the urge all the way home to dip into that hot gooey goodness, to contend with the debate of burning of the mouth and dripping grease all over your shirt as you try to slug down that dipping front end of the triangle before the whole thing busts loose and plunges into your lap or to gnaw your lower lip raw trying to hold back the urge to lift up that lid just a touch to see if there's any pieces hot and/or loose enough to free easily. Sometimes I get smart and put it in the backseat, but then my mind convinces me that if I have to brake suddenly, I won't be able to save it careening to the floor and that is an unacceptable risk. It's the kind of pie that must be protected at all costs and get to the destination safely...if a bit smaller than it left.

The Pie rules! Amazing pizza and beyond amazing ranch. The service is always great and fast, and the pizza is always out of this world even if it's just cheese pizza! The cheese pull aparts are amazing, and don't get me started on the cinnasticks. The Pie will always be my favorite pizza spot.

The pizza is good, but I've been sick for the last 24 hours after eating there. I tried the hot dough, I don't know if that's what it was or if it was something else. But good tasting pizza is not worth this pain. I've eaten a lot of pizza and never had this before, I hope it's gone soon.

Love it! They have vegan pizza and vegan pull-a parts it's so delicious. Great place to end a good night of partying.

The pizza was okay. I had pineapple & ham, where I ate three slices there & two of the remaining three slices after the last round. I ate here on 10/25. The layout of the restaurant downstairs was cramped & a bit confusing - I actually got lost trying to find where they put out the pizza for you to pickup. I felt like the tables pushed in on you a lot even when people weren't at the tables. The restaurant did fill up due to the Utah vs. USC football game later that night. The pizza was okay, but after hearing everyone at the University of Utah talk about this place in their recommendations, I expected to fully enjoy this place & want to come back. Unfortunately, I have neither feeling.

Came here after a Jazz game. Very entertaining. They had a chance to send it to overtime, but Hayward missed his last free throw. Square pizzas are humongous!

I love delicious food but The Pie has been so disappointing lately. I have heard they put garlic in their crust. It tastes like that gross processed garlic and the flavor is so over-the-top I ended throwing half the pie away. Sad, because it is expensive! Won't order again.

Ordered take out three times now. First time, so perfect and delicious that I craved it a week later. Wanted to get more of their pizza later on and accidentally went to Pie Hole downtown ....and it was definitely not as good! Second time, they loaded on the cheese. Literally felt like I was eating a heart attack and had really bad gas afterward. Third time, I ordered a cheese pizza "light on the cheese." Lady on the phone taking my order said she orders pizzas the same way there because they load on the cheese. Good to know in the future. Delivery people are nice too, so that's a bonus. 2/3 times I was very pleased with this place. Much better than other pizza joints in SLC.

  • Shaun R.

Probably the best delivered pizza option in Salt lake. Crazy thick cheesy goodness with on-time delivery and hot, with that being said these are some pretty expensive pies especially if u try to add or subtract from the speciality versions. They ding you big time for add-ons but give you zero deductions for any topping subtractions. I never quite understood how pizza joints could get away with this. Oh well its worth the extra $10-12 bucks over papa johns. Just saying -

Great pizza. I'm new to SLC and The Pie and Pie Hole are definitely the places to go if you want pizza. If you like NY style pizza, then this place is probably not for you! I've tried the regular, thin, and ApocalyptDough..... All good! Also, don't forget easy cheese! They put tons of cheese and you might get a tummy ache!

  • Edwin S.

    Tomato basil pizza was awesome

  • Justin L.

The Pie has it's own unique style that I prefer / crave over any NY or Chicago style pizza I've ever had. The wings are great too!

  • Angie Chrisley L.

We had the cheese pull apart bread, I thought they were ok, more bread taste than cheese, if they added a stronger cheese flavor (my favorite is Asaigo) I would try it again. I ordered the Wise Guy and it was an interesting flavor but I am all for trying different food would I order it again probably not because the balsamic dressing threw me off but whose to you wouldn't like it. My husband has the pepperoni pizza and it was loaded with cheese which we love so we would definitely come back.

    (4)
  • Devon A.

Go for the beer and cheesy pullaparts. Leave because of the pizza. The amount of cheese that is put on each pizza is obscene and unappetizing. I like the loud, warm and dimly lit ambiance but couple that with greasy soggy pizza and you'll be sweating out the cheese through your armpits for days. I wish I had four hands so I could give this place four thumbs down!

    (1)
  • John K.

Worst service we have ever had. Right next to the u of u and they don't have the pac 12 network. Stopped in to watch Utah stanford and they didn't have the capacity to show the game. That was amazing to us.

    (1)
  • Vida A.

I love the Pie but this location, the pizza dough is waaay too chewy. The cheese pull aparts well, they didn't have enough cheese to pull apart. And the marinera dip lacked taste and the ranch was watered down. All i have to say good about this place is the easy location to get in and out of.

I am an unabashed and unashamed lover of The Pie! It's loud. It's dark. It's in a dungeon in a basement. It's perfect! If we're not tailgating, pre-game, then we're at The Pie, scarfing grimace proportions and sharing pitchers of Ice-Cold beer! It can be tough to get a table on gameday, but they always seem to make it work. I LOVE the pizza here. Always have. Always will. They actually use REAL MUSHROOMS, unlike many of the more trendy johnny-come-latelies in the Salty City pizza market. Mushrooms from a jar ought to be illegal! I recommend staying away from the ginormo-pizza as it gets soggy/doughy/greasy in the middle and over-done on the edges. The 14 and 16 inch pizzas always provide cheesy, gooey, crispy perfection. Fresh, high-quality ingredients make great pizzas and that's what you get at The Pie. The salads are pretty basic, but always fresh and tasty with some of the best ranch and/or Italian dressing you'll find anywhere. The zappis are also super good. If you want a big, hearty, cheesy, every-square-inch-covered-in-quality-toppings pizza, then the Pie will not disappoint. If you don't like The Pie. Do the rest of us a favor. Go someplace else so we can find a seat. Especially on game day!

WOW... no joke, this may be one of the best pizzas that I have ever had. We were in the mood for something different. Granted, pizza is a pretty basic food, but I was told about the speciality pies that are offered here. Enter the BBQ Chicken Cilantro. Very nicely seasoned chicken with a mix of Mozzarella and Gouda cheese and yes, some BBQ sauce and Cilantro were present to make this pie distinctive and quite flavorful. We only had to wait about 10 minutes for our pie which I consider better than average wait time and well worth the wait! The restaurant itself is interesting. Located in a basement with patron adorned writings on the wall, you can see its quite popular past. The music is however at times too loud and the seating area quite tight, but then thats probably what makes this place "hip" to the hungry customers that descend the steps to enter the joint. Ordering a large (14") we both had happy tummies. Free parking exists in the back, but its not plentiful, so bring change for the meters just incase!

I just stuffed my face with vegan cheese pizza and vegan pull-a-parts. I always get delivery so my stars are based on the food and the amount of time it takes to get an order. Today, my order came so fast! In basically half the estimated time. The delivery person was very nice and pleasant. The food was hot and delicious. I've been getting pizza from The Pie for years now, but today may have been the best experience from them. Thanks guys!

Pizza delivery review - no comment on the physical restaurant. The vegetarian supreme pizza and the pepperoni pizza were both good, but not amazing. They were very reasonably priced, though, and again, solidly good. The wings were pretty good, too.

This location is my go-to when I am feeling lazy and don't want to cook for myself and my hubby. So we have guiltily ordered pizza here more than I want to admit. It's not THE best pizza ever, but I prefer it to Domino's and Wasatch Pizza which are the only delivery options in my area. We prefer the greek pizza, the bbq chicken, and the wise guy pie which are all really tasty. We have put the thai pie, and buffalo chicken ranch at the "will never order again" list. Since we haven't eaten in the actual building I can't speak for it, but as far as delivery goes, its usually timely (1 hour at the most, even on weekends), and the dudes who show up are nice. We will continue to order on nights we are just not feeling like stepping in the kitchen and firing up the stove, but if I ever go out to sit down for pizza I will return to Settobello, or Vinto.

I have to give this place a 5 stars. I have had a lot of pizza in different places and this is the best so far. My husband took me here the first time I was in Salt Lake and it was pretty freaking busy, packed with all sorts of people. I was just here a few days ago about one and a half hours from closing and it was pretty dead. The writing on the walls and the dark underground feeling is cool since your about to stuff your face with delicious pizza. We had the Cheese pull-a-parts (breadsticks stuffed with cheese) which had just the right amount of cheese and bread combo. It also comes with marinara sauce and ranch. We ordered The Pie's Combo pizza and got the Large 14 inch. The sign says 8 slices and trust me that is MORE than enough for two hungry people. The Pie's combo is Pepperoni, Smoked Ham, Genoa Salami, Fresh Mushrooms, Onions, Green Peppers, Italian Sausage, Linguica Sausage, and Ground Beef. I don't like Green Peppers so we had no problems with them asking to not include those. For dessert we gorged on the Half Baked Cookies and Cream. This is a chocolate chip cookie baked in a dish and a mega scoop of ice cream on top. It was so warm and gooey and of course not to mention AWESOME! Oh and I am not a root beer fan at all but they have some of the best root beer on tap there. You don't get refills like you do with the other fountain drinks but it so worth it to try a glass. Their pizza tells all of the Dominos, Papa Johns, Pizza huts and Little Caesar's pizzas to shut the hell up with their deliciousness.

I called the pie tonight and Zach on the line sounded very busy. He asked me if I could hold on while he dealt with other customers. I was impressed by his attitude and his "willingness to help" . I have ordered pizza from The Pie many times, and have always been happy. Dealing with Zach makes ordering for the Pie a double pleasure. "Great Pizza" and "Great Service"

I love The Pie! After my flight landed, my gf and I ate here for dinner on my first night in SLC. They were opened after 10pm on a Friday and weren't too busy at all. We ate outside on the patio. Their vegan pizza is delicious. We got extra cheese and ground vegan beef on top with red onions. It was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Being from the East Coast, I've had some very good pizzas in my lifetime but The Pie's pizza was one of my favorites all time. Only a handful of pizzerias out East can compare to their great menu, friendly and fast service and delicious food! I recommend it and will be back the next time I'm visiting SLC.

I agree that this place is over-hyped, but I'll always be a patron. That atmosphere is super fun, right on campus, great beers, loud music and open late into the night. That's what I give the majority of the stars for. The only time I crave their food are when I've been out drinking and need grease to ensure I don't wake up with a hangover. The Pie is perfect for grease. The crust is super thick and the pie is covered in cheese. Good drunk food (bring tums). 3 stars for serving it's purpose, but if you're looking for a amazing, mind-blowing pizza look elsewhere.

I have deep fondness for The Pie. As a young degenerate, The Pie was my go to excuse for why I smelled like cigarette smoke. Of course, those days are long gone, but the pizza, pretty much the same. Always a doughy, never quite fully cooked cheesetastrophe. Lord help 'em, for all their college-y dive-y goodness, they're just not very good.

I remembered this place from childhood, and decided to swing by without even being hungry. So I didn't really have any plan to actually get anything at first. But after forgetting my chapstick back home that morning (grave mistake for someone visiting the dry air from the southeast), I was glad to realize they had a house root beer for me to try and coat my lips with. My hope was for a precious few minutes reprieve from my current-but-not-so-effective strategy of "just rubbing them together over and over." Walking in I was greeted by a less-than-enthusiastic girl behind a tall window very reminiscent of the bullet-proof glass you see in gas stations. I don't remember this part from childhood. After an awkward 2 minute exchange where I was the only one interested in saying anything more than one word at a time, I managed to walk away with a styrofoam cup fresh full of brew. Which I must say is refreshing. A slight bitterness that reminds me of taro root. Try it. (side note/fun fact: like this place, there are a ton of places in Utah that claim to be "microbreweries". Only like two or three of them brew *actual* beer ha)

I can stay silent about the Pie no longer. Ok, it's a Utah institution. Ok, if you attend the U you are obligated to love The Pie almost as much as you are obligated to make red your new favorite color. Ok, if you grew up in SLC, this is the gold standard for pizza. It's not that I dislike thick pizza. Sure, my preference is thin, but thick pizza has its place. The Pie though, does not have a place in my heart. I've tried it twice. It's so doughy that it wasn't even cooked all the way through (both times). I just can't like it. I've tried, Utah, I really have. Still, my little review likely will not keep people away. All I can say is that if you like my other reviews, if you trust my culinary point-of-view, you can trust me on this place too.

The original Pie Pizzeria is a great location with a lot of character and nostalgic charm... or another way to look at it is... the original Pie Pizzeria is in a dark, dirty basement that with the lights on is probably filthy and scary... whatever words you choose to describe the Pie, it is a unique restaurant and a popular hangout with local college kids. The pizza is pretty good, though it can be very greasy at times. Remember to bring a Sharpie so you can write your name on the wall or profess your undying love for your favorite band or girl/boy friend. ;)

I am going to preface this review with the statement that I do not think that pizza should only be judged by it's ability to deliver cheese into my belly. There seem to be many people in Utah who believe that this is true and therefore this place is more popular then it should be. I think by most measures for a pizza place, this is a 2 star place but I gave it an extra star for a couple of things. The atmosphere of the original location is just about perfect. It is a dark, dingy, hole in the right way. You can watch the pizza oven and the beer flows freely. Great college hangout. The 2nd thing is the Greek pizza. This pizza which is like a reconstructed gyro, is one of my favorite pies in the city. If you like a giant slab of cheese with OK sauce and ingredients, this is a pretty good place, especially if you like the atmosphere. If you like great pizza, try the Greek and see if you like it. If none of this sounds good to you, there are better places in town for great pizza.

  • Andrew S.

Giant pizzas smothered in grease. So much grease it runs out the corners of your mouth, soaks your plate and runs down your arms and off your elbows. Some people really like this. I don't. In fact I always feel sick when I eat it and I only eat it when someone brings it to an office party. This place is by the University and a huge hit with the college crowd. Really, it is good for what it is.

  • Denise T.

If you like greasy, cheesy pizza, this is a great place to go. I am not really a big pizza eater, but I did enjoy this pizza. I tried the Hawaiian pizza, and the toppings were plentiful which made me happy. Also, I like how they cut the pizza in squares, so I can be choose-y and get the pieces in the middle that don't have crust attached. Come prepared, you will need about 10 napkins per slice that you eat to wipe your greasy mouth!

    (3)
  • Scott R.

I was thrilled when they opened this take out location. It use to be that when you ordered a pie to pick up. You would have to wait in a tight quarters if it wasn't ready yet. Not anymore! Big open area for waiting while your delicious pie is finished. And like always my favorite pie in SLC.

    (4)
  • Tracy W.

I have tried to like The Pie given that everyone in SLC loves the place, but this pizza is doughy and greasy and not worth the hype. It should be mentioned that the atmosphere is fun and, if the pizza were good, it would be a decent deal (it is a TON of food).

I came to this place several times after a friend of mine told me about it in great detail while reminiscing food we missed in the U.S. while down in Argentina. After a long day of hitting the slopes at Brighton Ski Resort, we stopped by for some good seating and tons of food. Yea,.. their largest pizza option on the menu is some serious stuff. We had a huge group of adults and so we ordered three of their largest and holly crap. There was soo much left over. Not only are you dealing with humongous pizzas but some super good quality. Let me put it like this, anytime I make it to SLC I always make it a point to stop by the basement of that pharmacy across the street from University of Utah. I recall the night before my wedding we were in a hotel nearby and I forced someone to drive by and pick up a pizza from the pie to keep me from thinking about all the other stress related to the wedding. Good stuff! Oh and plus I got to write some profanity on their brick walls.

    (4)
  • David B.

Awesome pizza as always. The best thing is that the toppings are good quality and piled high! It's located in the basement in the commercial area right next to University of Utah, so don't miss it! The music is loud, the place is cramped, there isn't a place on the wall not covered with names, and the pizza is amazing. It's the quintessential, classic college pizza place.

Another road trip stop. On our way from Phoenix to Boise we decided to stop in Salt Lake City. We were to meet some friends for pizza at The Pie and our hotel was next to the temple, so we walked- and it's a good thing we did- as we ended up gorging ourselves with yummy, delicious pizza. We shared amongst the 4 of us the largest pizza they had and chose BBQ flavor. It was absolutely delicious and that pizza was too big for 4 people. Both couples ended up with leftovers, which I ate ours in the car the next day (I love day-old pizza). The only downside was the line. We waited way too long for pizza and when we finally got to the counter, they told us they could not take our order for a while because they were too backed up.

  • Jen F.

If you're looking for pizza with a great crisp crust, and fresh flavor, this is your place. Unlike a lot of chains their pizza isn't over-seasoned. It's just right!!! A lot like something you'd get in NY, but in the heart of Salt Lake instead. The shop itself (downstairs from University Pharmacy) is dark and spacious, with graffiti all over the brick walls and Christmas lights on the ceiling. I'd say it's a perfect college hangout, worth the stop for anyone that doesn't mind the music loud and the beer flowing. OH, and they offer single slices after dark (10 p.m.) I think, which is a great thing for late-night study sessions or just carb cravings.

  • Aaron T.

For a big greasy pizza this place can't be beat. Not for someone looking for a thin crust or authentic Italian style pizza. The original restaurant is in a basement and is perfect for a college area. Fun environment. Get the cheese pull-aparts for an appetizer. You will be very happy. At the end of the night you will be mad at yourself because you couldn't stop eating this stuff.

The Pie is probably the best pizza I have eaten in Utah. The walls are studded with countless awards for Best Pizza in Utah for multiple consecutive years. Definitely not the best in the world or anything but I have a certain fondness for The Pie because it weened me off of the gut-busting cardboard pizza of Pizza Hut and Dominos. It is not gourmet or authentic Italian or anything, but it is just plain greasy, cheesy, meaty goodness. The highlight of The Pie is their toppings. Their meats and cheeses are quality products. In my opinion, the greatest pizza they make is the Chicken Ranch. I swear I used to eat one of these things once a week when I lived in Salt Lake. The perfectly balanced ingredients make this thing a masterpiece. Fresh tomatoes, crispy bacon, chicken and ranch dressing. You gotta get this thing hot, that makes all the difference. Second best is the Mountain of Meat. But when they say "mountain," they mean it. You really gotta like meat for this thing, but for me, the more animal flesh the better. The Pie's weak point is their dough. It is definitely not bad and is better than average but it doesn't live up to some of the more authentic Italian pizzas I have had. This place is a Salt Lake institution. As such, everyone has tried it at some point and you are sure to get some very polarizing opinions about this place when there is so much hype surrounding it. I would recommend it to anyone in the area who wants to avoid the tyranny of the big pizza chains.

If you like pizza with big taste and manly substance, then the Pie is for you. Its as good or better than any pizza I've ever wolfed down. One slice will feed most people, two will rip your pants. Try the "stromboli." Five thumbs up!

When I asked my Salt Lake friends, "Where should I go for pizza?" they all answered, "The Pie." So I went on a cold, snowy December day. Parking was a little confusing, but I found the place, tucked away on the top of 2nd East. Then you walk down a staircase underneath a pharmacy. (When people left and walked back up, it was like watching an episode of "Cheers." I loved that.) It's definitely geared towards the college age/hippy crowd. (It was like Cheba Hut in Tempe, only think pizza and in a basement.) Good beer on tap, fun crowd. PIzza was great. Had a delicious crust and piled high with toppings. It's not hard to see why The Pie has won the "Best of..." for years. When I'm back in Salt Lake, I'll stop by again.

I am obsessed with this place. I haven't found a pizza place nearly as good since I moved from Salt Lake 2 years ago. The cheese pull-apart is AMAZING! And I don't know where their ranch dressing comes from, but it is always worth the 50 cents to get a side of it with whatever you order. They have many different ingredients you can order on a pizza, each always delicious and fresh. The restaurant itself is down in a basement with graffiti all over the walls. It's kind of grungy, but it's all part of the experience. The pizza and beer is cheap, so you'll never break the bank. Highly recommended!

On a recent trip to Salt Lake City, my family and I were looking for a good pizza spot somewhere in the area, and definitely didn't want to have to settle for a known chain like Pizza Hut. We found the Pie closeby and decided to check it out. Ordering two large pizzas - one with pepperoni / linguica, and the other with artichoke hearts / spicy tomatoes, we found that the staff there was very friendly and the service quick & quality. While waiting for the pizzas I scanned over the beer on tap, which wasn't too bad at all and contained some local microbrews that were good choices. The prices on both the beverages and food are about average for a pizza spot, no complaints on them, but awesome deals shouldn't be expected either. The pizza is pretty good. Nothing too superb, and the grease on the pepperoni was a bit much, but overall the taste and style is a solid 8/10. Their ingredients and dough are both fresh and the crust of the pizza is soft and chewy, and somewhere in the middle of a thin crust and deep dish. I would recommend this restaurant if you're in the area and are looking for a good local pizza spot.

Awesome pizza! If you're looking for a delicate thin-crust number, look elsewhere. The Pie dishes up thick, heavy pizzas with ample helpings of grease and cheese. It's fantastic. The toppings all seem very fresh, and their pizza sauce is absolutely divine. The atmosphere at the SLC dine-in location is also not to be missed. It's a great setting for a greasy, satisfying pizza joint. Highly recommended!

Stepping into The Pie brings you back to the time when you were in college. Remember the snowy nights after a football game, or the few times you had to stay up to prepare for your chemistry exams? That's what the Pie reminds me of when I go there. Fun and happy atmosphere, with thick, greasy, and cheesy pizza, and a pint of beer... I'm a happy camper. Getting a table can be tricky on a game night or on the weekends, though.

Ahhhhh! What can I say about the pie? I frequent the 1300s location for their take-out I do like dining at the U location, but it usually feels cramped. There hasn't been an item I ordered that I was disappointed with. The wife and I usually order a small sausage and mushroom pizza with a side of their delicious ranch dressing! That pizza along with their Chefs salad you're in take-out dinner heaven. I wish i could dive into their ranch dressing Scrooge McDuck Style, it is that delicious. The reason for the 4 star is because of their pricing on certain items. their side of Ranch is about a Dollar for like 2 ounces. and their Buffalo wings are 5 for $8 which is steep for an item that sells itself. All in all this place is great for parties. they are prompt when you order and don't for get to try a cheese pull-apart. or maybe a Meatball and Fresh tomato pizza! DELICIOUS!

this review is for the pie delivery/take out location. i haven't gone to the dine-in locations in quite a while. the reason why i only frequent the delivery/take out location (next to the wells fargo on 1300 e and about 100 s) is because they have a vegan menu. you can get things made vegan (via no cheese) at the dine-in, but the take out/delivery place has daiya vegan cheese. which means vegan cheese pull aparts. basically breadsticks with cheese inside and super super tasty. cheap too. it's $7 or $8 for them. the zappis are also good, although sometimes the cheese inside isn't melted all the way. the pies themselves are a little expensive, so i save this order for special times. i have had the bbq beef pie twice and it is so good. i've only done take out, and the pull aparts are ready within 15 minutes. the pies take a little bit longer, about 25-30 mins. this is my favorite pizza place in slc. great for late night cravings. their hours are sun-thurs open until 11pm, fri & sat open until 1am

I can't believe that I haven't written a review of this place yet. I may not live in Salt Lake now, but I'll never forget The Pie. I learned of this college institution while at West High School. Its located half a block off of the University of Utah campus and on the weekends, you can barely get into this popular hang out. They have pizza, zappis or calzones, subs, salads and a good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. What I want to talk about today is their excellent pizza. Normally you go out for two people and would get a small or medium pizza. When we hit the Pie, we go with a large group whether it be family or friends. So we always order the jumbo wagonwheel size pizza. The thing is like 2 feet across. It is so big and loaded with toppings that they cut it into squares not the wedge slices everyone is familiar with. They load their pizza with toppings and you can get toppings that you wouldn't get at your neighborhood pizzeria. Think linguica sausage, shrip, sun dried tomato and even more. The outside edges are easy to eat by hand, but most people end up using a knife and fork . One of the behemouths can feed 8 to 10 people no problem - unless they are linemen on the U Football team. They have a great college atmosphere and you will literally see writing on the walls. There has to be 20 layers or more of writing on the walls. This is one of their signatures. People will go in time and time again to try and find what they wrote and add more to the history. JUST GO! ENJOY! HAVE FUN!

In no particular order - basement, crowd, graffiti, dim lighting, loud, music, beer, fun, late night, late late night, the U, 5% student discount, lunch, dinner, midnight cravings, cheese, thick crusts, pull-a-parts, some more beer, slices, 12 inch, pineapple on pizza. Eat, drink and be merry - all at The Pie.

Good pizza. They make it with anything you can think of. The barbeque chicken was awesome, but just get the supreme cause it's got everything you can imagine. Gotta eat it with a knife, fork and a friend (or two). Come hungry cause they're very filling.

I'm not a big fan. We end up going here once a year or so, usually because a friend is experiencing college nostalgia. The quality never changes. The pizzas are expensive and laden with grease and cheese. I like my share of unhealthy food, but this is ridiculous. I can't even make it through a single piece without feeling sick. The root beer is really good but painfully overpriced. The atmosphere is dark, loud, and cramped. It's particularly bad when they have live music. If you feel like trying it anyway, I'd recommend sticking with cheese pull-aparts and getting them to go.

Back in the good ol days, I'd give this place a 5 star. Of course its gotten less obscure and more popular...good business for the little guy...the pizza isn't as good as it use to be but its still great pizza. I confess that I am don't deviate too far from the zappi's which cease to be wonderful cheesy goodness (just give it to me in an IV, quick!)...Every time I come back to SLC, I find myself putting The Pie on my list of things to do. If only they'd bring back the guy who took requests on the acoustic guitar...the guy who sat at his table in his trench coat talking to himself...the fresh writing on the wall, The Pie is a pioneer of SLC pizza.

Campus favorite for many of us, and it helps that they offer local craft beers to wash down the thick pizza. Overall it's a good pizza, cute location somewhat down from the sidewalk there, but just not among the best - well, compared to the better Chicago places and such for those of us who have experienced food outside of Utah (which isn't that common I hear).

Oh man! This pizza is sooooo good it makes me want to do something drastic. (Like eat the whole thing? Yes, that's exactly what it makes me do. Every time.) Bring: white-out or opaque markers to write your name on the wall, money for the jukebox, small groups (seating for large groups can be a challenge and is generally a bad idea) Leave home: babies (It's too loud! Plus, college kids swear.) Do: get a pitcher Don't: order a salad or write on the seats (jerks!)

The thing about a place like this is when you live in an area with bad pizza and don't even know it because it's all you've had all your life and never been anywhere else then you don't know the difference or know what good pizza even is or really should be!!! Yea I supposed of all the HORRIBLE pizza in SLC and Utah in general, this place is one of the best of the worst. Actually I won't even give it that. I don't think the bad pizza in this state is completely their fault. I think the altitude and the high mineral content of the water has something to do with the way the crust turns out, more bready or crackery than like real pizza dough. Another factor is culture. Its just the type of pizza they have here. Note that there is no large chain which serves pizza here like Unos or Bertuccis. I had the thin crust pizza and it tasted like a cracker. The regular pizza is bland and tasteless. To be fair, I must mention that my wife has the opposite taste in pizza from me and hates Este but loves The Pie. But anyway you true Utahns out there just go on and enjoy eating your bad pizza. I didn't come out here for the pizza anyway. Thank god for a place like Este and Big Apple Pizzeria where they make the closest thing to real pizza around!

Who doesn't love The Pie? I guess since I go to the U I'm a little biased, but this place is awesome! The pizza is delicious, the atmosphere is great and they've got a decent beer selection (a few on tap.) Don't get the gigantic pizza they have, order a few smaller ones because the crust is one of the best parts of their pizza. The pizza is super greasy, just throw a napkin on it and soak some up, the grease makes it tasty when they are cooking it though! I don't like how they charge you for ranch, honestly? And refills on soda are a charge too, which seems like a rip off to me. Doesn't bother me because I only order beer anyways though. The other locations don't seem the same to me, the Pie by the U just has a certain feeling you have to experience!

This pizza is incredible. One slice is more than enough to fill you up. It's thick and delicious and worth any price they ask. Fortunately it's very well priced. It also keeps very well in the fridge and tastes awesome cold the next day.

I am a lover of good food. That being said, I do not love The Pie. I am from Chicago & I still love a good California style or New York slice. Even though I am partial to deep dish pizza, I just like edible pizza. This was soggy & greasy. It lacked any real flavor profile at all. It is the white inbred brother of normal pizza. PLEASE, if you are from out of town, do not order from here. It will be a waste of time. We threw out the pizza. I put it where it belonged.... In the garbage. I don't usually post reviews, but this was so awful, I had to warn people.

I don't know what the craze is about this greasy, over-cheesy pizza. It takes like regurgitated Domino's. The staff is comprised of 16-year-olds who are more interested in texting in the backroom than giving good service. The restaurant decor is nonexistent, and the long lines and dark lighting of this subterranean dining location make it claustrophobic instead of cozy. One star for all the cute U of U boys. P.S. Parking here on the busy weekends sucks because all the surrounding neighborhoods have parking pass exclusivity, so the only parking to be had is on 200 South and 1300 East.

The pizza is really good. The crust comes thick and it's a hearty pizza. There is a great selection of toppings and they're quality. The style is traditional but it's as good as you can get. It's not fancy but the pizza's good and the beer is good.

I like to think of myself as somewhat of a pizza aficionado. I've eaten a lot of pizza in my time. A lot. And I can honestly say this was some of the best I've ever had. The pizza has a nice hand-tossed crust. Not too thin, not too thick. The sauce isn't extremely flavorful, but I'm not a huge sauce fan so that was ok with me. It got out of the way and allowed the rest of the flavors to come through. They'll put anything you can imagine on your 'za and they don't skimp on the portions. There were 6 of us, we ordered two large pizzas and had plenty of leftovers. They have great beers on tap and a killer jukebox. It's definitely got that college hangout vibe to it, but in a good way. It's cozy and casual and a great place to go with a bunch of friends. And I would definitely do take out if I wanted to eat pizza at home.

My in laws love this place (especially since it has recently joined them in the 'burbs) but I fail to see the allure of it. Granted I dig the dine in ambiance of a legitimate pizzaria dive that was SORELY lacking in Utah for decades Why did Utahn's not go out for pizza until just recently? But the pizza is way over greased. In fact it is rare that we ever get a pizza we prefer the pull-aparts (basically cheese bread with marinara and RANCH????? (what is it with Utahns and ranch??) for dipping. The pullaparts are much easier on the wallet and on the cholesterol.

The best pizza in Salt Lake City? Yeah, probably. Also the best cheese sticks, the cheese pull-aparts; an order of two will feed a decent sized group without even adding a pizza. Also, at the risk of sounding like i'm white trash, the ranch is phenomenal for dipping your pull-aparts.

Favorite pizza place of all time! They put the pepperoni under the cheese which took me by surprise, but it was so good! A little loud sometimes, but what do you expect, it's a college hang out place. Used to go there at least once a week, but we have since moved out of state and miss it like crazy! The bonus: when you go at lunch and order it by the slice, they really bake it by the slice. So you can still customize it! Our Favorite: Pepperoni and Pineapple

I've read some reviews and people have said this is like Pizza Hut. Well they are way wrong. This is some of the best 'zza i have ever had and i like pizza! You can take out from a hub just down and around the corner from the pie, but you must go in and eat just once at the Pie. When you walk in it has that old college feel to it. People have writing there names on the walls with markers and everything! The pizza's are amazing and the Root beer (homemade mind you) is to die for! You can get something just for you or you can order "The Moster" that is 32' inches! AWESOME!!!! So yeah, people who say its like pizza hut are just dont know there pizza!

Wonderful pizza. It's a U of U staple that I've been going to since college. It's not easy to classify, and I don't believe different styles of pizza should be compared against one another. Apples and oranges. This is not New York style pizza, and should not be compared to Big Apple. This is not Nappoli style pizza, and should not be compared to Setabello. This is, for the lack of a better term, American style pizza. If you're into big, greasy pizza that's overloaded with toppings, The Pie is as good as it gets. The crust is flavorful and delicious.

Yuck. I never understood what all of the hype was about this joint. I guess when I was a freshman living in the dorms at the U. and high as hell constantly, a nice, simple cheese pizza was great. But after I became a vegetarian two years ago I realized just how much I disliked the pies from this restaurant. First of all, I didn't have to order a heavily topped pizza to realize that the pizzas from The Pie are overcheesed. Secondly, when you order toppings on your pizza your crust is undercooked because of all that weight that needs to absorb the heat first. Last and MOST when you get vegetable toppings, the moisture from the veggies soaks into what little bit of the crust actually got a chance to cook underneath all that fat and cheese. EWWWW!!!!! The result is a doughy, drippy, messy, inedible lump of... shit. Their crusts are also particularly flavorless, and overconsumption of cheese wreaks havoc on one's digestive system. When you order their cheese bread you can tell they use cheap cheese because it gets incredibly rubbery and chewy, all the while the crust is tough and hurts your teeth and the garlic is almost totally uncooked. The restaurant is also not particularly clean and usually overcrowded. There is virtually no one watching over or tending the dining room floor, so tables get moved around, shit gets thrown, and people get knocked over. And the rowdy sports fans that watch football, and the drunk kids that come in at random times- all of that makes it a really "interesting" place. It is a very collegey spot but I haven't eaten at the PIE in over a year because it simply does not meet the standards of food I want to pay for. The great news is if you aren't a vegetarian they have DELICIOUS subs, and Guinness on tap which is always awesome, and if you ARE a vegetarian they have great breadsticks, which are called "pull-aparts".

My dad first introduced me to the pie when I was checking out colleges...and while Utah as a whole might not be my favorite, this is the best pizza I've ever had. Each pie is loaded with toppings, cheese and terrific crust. Though I was a BYU student, I would get a medium pie to take home and devour over the next few days. Hires may be my first Utah stop whenever I come to the area, but the Pie will always be second.

Look behind Little Ceasars it is the best pizza in town. Now I love their Calzones (Zippos?) and is worth the trip for those alone. The other thing that makes this great is the location. Going down the stairs into the dimly lit room only makes the experience better. It is as if you found a secret place in the valley and can read all the writings of all those people who found it before you did. I also dare you to take on their large-I did this with 10 guys and we came out with 8 after 2 died of heart attacks during the meal.

There are 2 great finds I've found so far in Utah cusine. One was the Morman Cookbook I picked up at a gas station. The other was The Pie. Seriously, one of the best pizzas in the USA. Chicago style. And they got some good beer for Utah. Who knew? Cozy little spot, a little dive-like and college-feeling, big on heart and fun.

I used to love this place, but now I find the whole milk cheese they use a bit heavy. We wouldn't go out of our way to eat there as we did today.

I love pizza- the pies here are extra cheesy so I always use a fork to eat it. I love the gourmet toppings- broccoli, spinach, etc. The crust is thick and chewy. Pull-a-parts are a perfect appetizer, and the price is great.

Better than Domino's, but that's not saying much. Over cheesy, over greasy. After lots of blotting and removal of excessive cheese - it's decent, but not worth the price. They deliver and tack on a delivery charge; $20 for a medium.

I seriously don't see what the big hype is about Pie Pizza. It's pretty much Pizza Hut, except you have a few more choices/combinations for toppings.

i used to come here every so often when i'd come up to salt lake city from provo. the ambience is great. dark and very underground feeling. they let you write things on the wall, which is pretty cool. the pizza itself is just alright. tons of toppings to choose from. the pizza is very dense and heavy. maybe i would like it more if i was actually a fan of chicago style pizza. but this place is definately worth checking out.

last night i ordered the cheese manicotti w/ meatballs and a medium 12" cheese pizza and i didnt see what the big deal was. i thought the sauce tasted like it came from a jar and the cheese in the manicotti was nasty. maybe i ordered on an off night...

greasy, thick, filled with toppings and a fun atmosphere. this was a good place! i would love to go there again. i think it would be best enjoyed with a bunch of friends and some beer. not a family place or a place to take a date. but a good lets go get fat and eat a bunch of crap that isnt good for anything but our tastebuds.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
